The success of RVupgrades is the result of what owner Bill Rowell calls his "Harvard Education in How NOT to Run a Company," which he earned while running his first business. "In the late 80s, my business partner and I made every mistake possible," says Bill, "so we were sure we lost more money than what a Harvard education would have cost us." Bill eventually left that company to help a struggling family-owned electronics company, which he quickly turned into a success. In early 2000 Bill decided to combine his business sense with his love of RVing, and the idea for RVupgrades was born. In January of 2002, the company, which sells RV aftermarket accessories, was founded. But Bill only kept his business open for six months. "I decided that if we were going to do this, we were going to do it right," he says. "We spent the next two years doing market research and working on a business plan that defined company goals and a clear direction." Growth has been strong since RVupgrades' re-emergence in 2004, with the company experiencing over 50% growth each year. "We started with just two employees and now have ten. We continue to add a new employee every six months. I may have the top title, but it's the employees of RVupgrades who have made it as successful as it has become," Bill says.
